Terms of Service

Last updated: 1 August 2026

1. Acceptance

By installing or using the Recess app ("Recess", the "App"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

2. What Recess does

Recess is a screen-time management tool for Android. It lets you set daily time limits, scheduled blocks, and focus sessions on apps you choose, and it blocks those apps on your device when the conditions you set are met. Recess is a self-help productivity tool; it is not a medical, parental-control, or security product.

3. Accounts

You need a Google account to sign in. You are responsible for keeping your account secure and for the activity that happens under it. You must provide accurate information and be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country) to use Recess.

4. Free trial & subscriptions

Recess offers a 7-day free trial. After the trial, continued use requires a paid subscription (monthly or annual). Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled beforehand. Prices are shown in the app and on our website before you purchase. See our Cancellation & Refund Policy for how to cancel and when refunds apply.

5. Permissions

Recess requires certain Android permissions — including Usage Access and the Accessibility Service — to detect which app is open and to block limited apps. You may revoke these permissions at any time in Android Settings, but the App's blocking features will stop working if you do.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to misuse the App, including attempting to reverse-engineer, resell, or interfere with its operation, or using it to violate any law. Recess is licensed to you for personal, non-commercial use.

7. Disclaimer & limitation of liability

Recess is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. Because Android and device manufacturers control how apps run, we cannot guarantee that blocking will be uninterrupted or effective in every situation (for example, where the operating system stops the App to save battery). To the maximum extent permitted by law, Recess and its operator are not liable for any indirect or consequential damages arising from your use of the App.

8. Changes & termination

We may update the App or these Terms from time to time; material changes will be posted here. We may suspend or terminate access for violations of these Terms. You may stop using Recess at any time.
