Privacy Policy

Last updated: 10 August 2026
The short version: Recess helps you use your phone less. Your app-usage data (which apps you use and for how long) stays on your device. Recess never reads your screen content, messages, or anything you type, and never sells your data.

Who we are

Recess ("Recess", "we", "us") is a screen-time and app-blocking application for Android. This policy explains what data the app uses and how. If you have questions, contact us at dheeraj.yandrapu@gmail.com.

Data that stays on your device

To do its job, Recess reads your app-usage statistics from Android (which apps are in the foreground and for how long) and detects which app is currently open. This information is processed on your device only to enforce the limits you set. It is not uploaded to us or shared with anyone.

Permissions we use

Recess relies on two Android permissions, both used only to enforce the limits you set — and both processed entirely on your device:

Recess does not use an Accessibility Service, and does not read the content of your screen, your messages, your passwords, or anything you type. It only needs to know which app is open.

Account & sign-in data

You sign in with Google. We use Firebase Authentication to identify your account, and Google Cloud Firestore to store a small amount of account data so your limits and trial status follow you across reinstalls and devices:

We do not store your screen content or the content of any app you use.

Payments

If you subscribe, payment is processed by our payment provider. We do not receive or store your full card details — those are handled by the payment processor and, where applicable, Google Play. We receive only your subscription status (active, expired, cancelled).

What we don't do

Your choices & rights

You can revoke the Usage Access and "Display over other apps" permissions at any time in Android Settings (the app's blocking features will stop working). You can request deletion of your account data by emailing dheeraj.yandrapu@gmail.com; we will delete the account data we hold for you.

Children

Recess is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected here with a new "Last updated" date.
